Alexander Douglas
That Which Was Lost (PDF 13.8 MB) Alexander Douglas, born in Concord, California in 1954 grew up in an atheistic home. Both parents denied the existence of God, even though both parents were raised in religious homes. His father, Malcolm, was a scientist who fully embraced evolution. That denial of God also led to a denial of honor as he broke covenant with his wife, Doris, by having an affair. Doris raised 6 children by herself back in the early 1960's. Alex was the fourth child, with the birth name of Douglas Smith. Alex changed his name in his early 20's as he sought a living on in theater as a circus acrobat. That acrobatics led him to New Orleans in 1985 where he went to study under a Russian master. That master was a Russian Jew who had become a Christian. He led Alex to Christ. Alex moved to Dallas in 1990 to study for the ministry at Christ for the Nations. While a student at CFNI he spent the summer of 1991 working on a kibbutz in Jerusalem for his minor in Jewish Studies. He studied everything pertaining to professional ministry. One project he did for a class was a detailed timeline of the parallel histories of the world and the biblical narrative. While there he read Watchman Nee's book, "The Spiritual Man" and realized that anything not led by the Spirit is a work of the flesh. He knew that God led him to CFNI, but he heard nothing from the Lord regarding professional ministry. So when he graduated he went back to coaching gymnastics. Immediately after graduating the Lord showed him his beautiful wife, Linda. They were married 6 months later. During those early years of marriage between 1995 to 1998 he wrote his book, "That Which Was Lost" based upon the timeline he created at CFNI. Both spent years in a variety of denominations, always frustrated by the constant begging for money and building programs. After reading George Barna's "Revolution" they realized that there was an alternative to the business churches, house churches. They embraced that for two years and found that it was still a religious activity, not a Spirit led gathering. Alex began this website originally as "Reform the Church", but after reading Frank Viola's "Pagan Christianity", he realized that what the church needs is not reformation, but freedom. Hence the birth of this website. |
