VI. Rule or Administration
A. The word for ruler or organizer is proisthmi "Proistemi" and means to be
over in rank, to rule, to preside over, to maintain,
to superintend, to supervise, to protect or guard,
to give aid, to care for, to give attention to.
B. Now, this does not mean that others cannot rule,
such as, the prophet or teacher or exhorter, but it
does mean that this person is better suited to be a
ruler from a natural stand-point, and you will see
why as we talk about the criteria.
C. Characteristics of the administrator.
- Sees the overview -the big picture and the long
range goals.
- Is able to analyze a situation quickly and make a
judgment or a decision - and it is usually the right
one.
- Motivated to organise their own area of
responsibility and are not pushy.
- Is able to coordinate the efforts of many people
at once.
- Desire to complete the task quickly, they are not
procrastinators.
- Is a good organizer.
- Aware of resources needed to complete the task,
gathering them before they begin.
- Ability to know who can do the job, enabling them
to delegate.
- They readily assume responsibility when there is
no appointed leadership.
- Is a good leader - people tend to want to follow
him - he has charisma.
- Because he is a fast thinker, and also "thinks of
every-thing", others are overwhelmed by his
personality.
- They will endure the reaction of others in order
to meet the goal.
- He "thinks on his feet" therefore he is never
overwhelmed by anyone else.
- When he comes on a situation or comes into a
meeting, etc. he is quickly "in charge" and usually
no one knows that the transition has taken place
until afterward.
- He is a "natural born leader".
- Instinctively sees the blind spots that nobody
else thought of.
- Coordinates an overview of the various ideas and
concepts presented.
- Is able to formulate the objective and the best
means to reach it plus several alternatives and
reasons why they will or will not work.
- They have a tremendous sense of accomplishment
when the task is complete
- Desire to move quickly to the next challenge.
D. The administrator's greatest joy is in gathering
ideas and concepts into a big picture and
coordinating and organizing to reach a goal.
E. The administrator's greatest dangers are:
- Their ability to delegate may appear as laziness.
- Ability to endure reactions of others may appear
as callousness.
- Sometimes neglect to explain the reasons for a
task, and fail to motivate others.
- Tend to view people as resources rather than
individuals. Moved by goals rather than people. Tends
to use people to accomplish own goals
- Becomes upset when others do not share the same
goals
- Develops outer callousness due to being a target
for criticism
- Tends to drive himself to the point of neglecting
personal and family obligations
- Does not enjoy routine tasks
- Neglects routine responsibilities due to interest
in a job
- Makes suggestions and then reacts when they are
not followed
- Shows favoritism or partiality to those he
considers important to achieving goals
- May cause disharmony by expressing frustration
with others
- Very sensitive to loyalty and tends to jump to
conclusions based on it
- Dumps responsibilities on others when not in
charge
- Rejects suggestions or closes ears to grievances
- Show patterns of resentment and pride Reacts to
people who do not have the same talents and
abilities, focusing on their inefficiency and
disorganization
- Reluctant to dismiss valuable workers with
serious problems
- Becomes discontent with the things she has or has
not done
- Gives instructions without explanations, causing
others to feel used
- Neglects to give proper praise or appreciation
