I just finished reading and collating into a PDF book, Arthur Koestler’s 1976 manuscript entitled, “The Thirteenth Tribe.” There are many websites that speak of the Khazar Jews and their history, but this book best explains the story. Koestler is a Hungarian Jew, which makes him a Khazar Jew, as well. His work is not a condemnation but an honest look at world wide Jewry, which divides into 10% Sephardic (i.e., Spanish) and 90% Ashkenazi (i.e., Russian), of which those Ashkenazi Jews are Khazars from the gentile tribe descended from Japheth and not Shem. Koestler draws upon original and second hand manuscripts from Arabic, Jewish, Russian, Byzantium, Spanish and English documents. The Khazars come from the Russian steppes of Turkmenistan and settled between the Black and Caspian Seas, which today is Georgia and Ukraine.
Koestler admits that there is no such thing as direct descendants from Judah anymore that can be spoken of with certainty. He shows that even in the Old Testament the Israelis frequently intermarried with gentiles. It is possible that the Sephardim are more genetically related to Judah, but even they have intermarried with many gentiles over the generations. Also, there have been Sephardim who have intermarried with Ashkenazi Khazars, so a pure blood line is highly unlikely anywhere. In truth, Jews have more in common with the Samaritans of Jesus day now than they do with the Jews of His time.
Jewry today is more like the Samaritans in another regard: the Samaritans followed a different covenant that was created by Jeroboam. And even many of the Jews during Jesus time were like the Samaritans in that regard since they placed higher value upon the Talmud and the Kabbalah than the TANAK (Old Testament). Today Jews place no value on the Bible. Instead they are cultural Jews whose culture is derivative of the Talmud, Kabbalah and the Khazar influence of Yiddish culture. During the Khazar empire there were some Khazars who would only acknowledge the Old Testament as their guide calling the Talmud and Kabbalah inferior. They were called Karaites and were considered an heretical sect.
Frankly I don’t really care one way or another if the Jews of today are genetically descended from Judah or not, but many Christians believe that they are one and the same. I care about what the truth is and maintaining a divine perspective. And I care about the Church of Jesus Christ which in this matter seems to be very confused. This is what I wish to address in this post.
Fundamentalists and many Conservatives are very supportive of the nation of Israel. Christians believe that they are still the “chosen” people of God and that God is still honoring the Mosaic Covenant. Conservatives say that Israel is our only democratic ally in the Middle East.
The patriot movement, however, (which is made up of Christians, conservatives, liberals and nationalist Americans) is convinced (and I lean with them) that Israel is a duplicitous nation that has caused much of the international wars and political unrest today. They believe that Mossad (Israeli CIA) was involved with the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centers which was used to usher in the war on terror and strip the USA citizens of freedom to travel, as well as to attack middle east nations without just provocation. They are also convinced that the central banks of the world are run by Khazar Jews, specifically the Rothschilds, Rockefellers, et. al. And are behind all the wars of the world. These Khazars are an elite group, however, and I believe that vast majority of Jews are simply people living as best they know how.
Koestler believes Israel as a nation has the right to exist because it was established by the United Nations, thus was created by international law. I think that is a weak argument. Also, it does not matter to me whether modern Israel is the creation of the UN. Even though it seems that the vast majority of Israel are not genetic Jews, I believe that God still used the UN to re-establish it as part of the end time prophetic fulfillment.
If most of Israel is not genetically descended from Judah, why will Jesus return to the Mount of Olives? We know in Zechariah that Messiah will save Israel from the battle of Har Meggido (Armageddon) and split the Mount of Olives in half for the Jews to escape from the Temple Mount when He returns with the Church. What is he saving? His promises were not made to Judah nor the tribes of Israel, but were specifically given to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. That promise was the Messiah would be descended from them whose salvation comes only by faith as Paul explains in Romans 4. Despite what many in the Church think, there is no salvation through the Mosaic Covenant, and that covenant has been replaced with the New Covenant through Jesus Christ. So who is He saving?
I don’t know. But I do know that He is coming back to establish his Kingdom on Earth for one thousand years in which He will rule from Jerusalem. So, while modern Israel may have very little genetic stock (there is no such thing as anti-semitism, only anti-jewry) of Judah and Israel in it, it seems the political entity called Israel and the land that it is on will still be used for end time prophecy fulfillment. Feedback from readers on the topic will be appreciated, especially if you download the book and read it first. This book is a must read if you want to understand who the Jews are today.
